FESTIVAL FIRST NIGHT

When architectural brilliance is intertwined between a backdrop of natural beauty, the endless amount of lights create a vision amongst Sydney’s night city displaying a sight of pure magnificence. Yet when you throw the imaginative mastermind, Nigel Jamieson, into the equation, what is formed is a vision that combines a mixture of unique artistic forms and incorporates them into the already incredible surroundings, to create a night like no other.
Throughout the night, the stunning Hyde Park is transformed into a spice garden, with a range of artistic performers taking to the stage in sessions of sound, lyrics and dance. On one end of the park, a musical celebration of Indian culture is displayed through a 43 act performance that is The Manganiyar Seduction. In the Domain, Indigenous group The Black Arm Band perform songs of hope and inspiration, whilst Martin Place encourages attendees to become involved in their performance and take to the streets in the unison of dance. These numerous acts, combined with the laser techniques that flicker through the entangled trees that line the park, unite a city to express and appreciate the magnificent form we call art.
